Cordell Hull was an extraordinary statesman who devoted his career to politics and public service. He was born on October 2, 1871, in Olympus, Tennessee, USA, and became a remarkable figure in American history. Hull's extraordinary career and influence on world politics have left a lasting mark on his place in history.

Cordell Hull's parents and siblings were Elizabeth (Riley) Hull and William Paschal Hull. His family connection to politics began with his marriage to Rose Frances (Whittaker) Hull, the daughter of a U.S. congressman. Hull himself spent nearly 50 years of his life in Congress, in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, before becoming the longtime Secretary of State under Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was his keen ability to promote international dialogue that won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945.

Hull's political career was impressive and varied. In the House of Representatives, he was a well-known advocate of an effective income tax system, and he was a leader in the drafting and passage of the Income Tax Act of 1913. After Franklin Roosevelt was elected president in 1933, Hull was appointed secretary of state. and remained in office until 1944 - longer than any other U.S. secretary of state.

Hull is best known, however, for his role in launching and shaping the United Nations. He was the key figure in the creation of the United Nations Charter and established the basic principles that form the foundation of today's United Nations.

In 1945, Hull was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his efforts in international cooperation and diplomacy. Despite health problems, he accepted the award in person and delivered a moving speech on the importance of peace and cooperation among nations.

Cordell Hull died in 1955, but left a lasting legacy. He exemplifies the geopolitical influence an individual can have, and his impressive resume as a statesman, legislator, and peacemaker have made him one of the most prominent figures in American history.

Cordell Hull belonged to haplogroup I-M170 (subgroup I-Y13938) in the paternal line.
